Dean of Students

James Owens is a Marine Corps veteran who honorably and valiantly served his country for two tours in Afghanistanand. He returned to complete his Masters in Teaching to serve on a smaller scale, his community. Connecting with students and families has always been a passion of Mr. Owens. With extensive training in Collateral Problem Solving and a background in Special Education, his skill set offers a broad area of support. 

Originally from Oklahoma, Mr Owens enjoys traveling with his wife, two daughters, and trusted service dog Major. When he is not hard at work in his office or helping teachers around the school, you can find him on the golf course coaching VCHS's golf team or traveling to catch a round before he heads home to make dinner on his smoker. An avid family man, Mr. Owens brings the same passion for protecting and nurturing his own children to work with him every day.

Mr. Owens is dedicated to being the connection between students, families and teachers to drive success and excellence at Vance County High School.
